Murska Sobota (German: Olsnitz; Hungarian: Muraszombat; Prekmurian: Mürska Subouta), is a town and municipality in northeastern Slovenia. It is located near the river Mura in the region of Prekmurje and is the regional capital. The municipality has just over 20.000 inhabitants. Officially, the town is known as Murska Sobota, although in the local Prekmurian regional language it is usually referred simply as Subouta. The traditional German name of the town is Olsnitz, which derives from the old Slovene name Olšnica.
