Krsko (Slovene: Krško; German: Gurkfeld) is a town and municipality in eastern Slovenia. The town lies on the river Sava. The area was traditionally divided between Lower Styria (territory on the left bank of the river Sava) and Lower Carniola (territory on the right bank of the river Sava). The whole municipality is now included in the Spodnjeposavska statistical region. Archaeological evidence shows that the area was settled in prehistoric times. Along the river Sava, numerous Bronze and Iron Age sites as well as Roman remains show continuous occupation. After the Medieval period the area was a Habsburg possession.
