Targu Mures (Romanian: Târgu Mureş; Hungarian: Marosvásárhely, in shortened form: Vásárhely; German: Neumarkt am Mieresch; Latin: Novum Forum Siculorum) is the seat of Mureş County in the north-central part of Romania. It lies in the Székely Land, an ethno-cultural region in eastern Transylvania. The city was first documented in 1332 in the papal registry under the name Novum Forum Siculorum, and as 'Sekulvasarhel' (Székelyvásárhely) in 1349.
